Your account settings in emu.chat let you keep your personal details current, change your password, and secure your account with two-factor authentication. This article covers each of those from Settings.
Update your profile
Your profile holds your name and timezone. To change them, open Settings, go to Profile, and edit any of:
First Name
Last name
Timezone
Select Save to apply your changes.
Change your email address
You can also change your sign-in email from the Profile page. Enter your new Email address and save. emu.chat sends a verification link to the new address, and the change only takes effect once you open that link and confirm it. Until then, a notice shows that the change is pending, where you can resend the confirmation link or cancel the request.
Note: If your organisation signs in through Microsoft SSO, your email is managed by your identity provider and the Email address field is disabled. See Microsoft SSO configuration guide.
Change your password
To set a new password, open Settings and go to Password. Then:
Enter your Current password.
Enter your New password.
Re-enter it in Confirm password so the two match.
Select Save password.
emu.chat checks your current password before saving and clears the fields once the change succeeds.
Set up two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second step at sign-in: a one-time code from an authenticator app on your phone. emu.chat uses time-based one-time passwords (TOTP), so you will need an authenticator app such as the one you already use for other accounts. SMS and email codes are not supported.
Note: emu.chat 2FA applies to password sign-in only. If your organisation signs in with Microsoft SSO, your second factor is handled by Microsoft, so there is nothing to set up here. See Microsoft SSO configuration guide.
To turn it on, open Settings, go to Two-Factor Authentication, and:
Select Enable 2FA.
In your authenticator app, either scan the QR code shown or enter the setup key by hand (you can copy the key).
Enter the 6-digit code your app generates to confirm, then select Continue.
Before the setup starts, emu.chat asks you to confirm your password. Once 2FA is enabled, the page shows an Enabled badge.
Save your recovery codes
After you enable 2FA, emu.chat shows a set of recovery codes under 2FA Recovery Codes. Each code works once and lets you sign in if you lose access to your authenticator app, so store them somewhere safe.
Select View Recovery Codes to reveal them, and Hide Recovery Codes to hide them again.
Select Regenerate Codes to replace them with a fresh set. This invalidates the old ones.
Turn off two-factor authentication
To stop using 2FA, go to Settings > Two-Factor Authentication and select Disable 2FA.
