The inbox wizard walks you through creating a new inbox in a few short steps: choose the type, name it, pick a phone number, assign team members (for a shared inbox), then confirm. To use the wizard you need an active paid subscription and you must be a workspace Administrator. See User roles and permissions.

Before you start

During your trial you can send from your trial inbox, but the add-inbox wizard stays locked until you subscribe; emu.chat sends you to Billing to start a subscription (or fix a payment issue) first. To learn what the trial includes and how to subscribe, see Your free trial: what's included and what happens when it ends.

Run the wizard

Open Inboxes and select Add New Inbox. The wizard walks you through a few steps and ends with a review screen where you can jump back and edit any detail before creating the inbox.

Choose the inbox type

  • Shared inbox β€” a team inbox several people can access (for example, sales or support). This adds a later step to assign team members.
  • Personal inbox β€” an inbox for one person.

Name the inbox

Give the inbox a clear name your team will recognise. You can change it later from the inbox settings.

Choose a number

Each inbox has one phone number. You can either get a new emu.chat number or bring your own:

  • Get an emu.chat number β€” browse available numbers, filtered by country and search. Each number shows its cost: Included (covered by your plan) or a monthly price added to your subscription.
  • Bring your own number β€” linking an existing number, or porting your current number, is handled by our team. Use the support links on this step to get started; there is no self-serve porting flow.

Assign team members (shared inbox only)

For a shared inbox, add the people who should have access. You can change this later from the inbox settings.

Confirm and create

Review the inbox type, name, number, assigned users, and any monthly cost, then select Create inbox. If your billing has changed in the meantime, emu.chat may ask you to update it before finishing; see Buying credits and setting up auto top-up.

Your inbox is ready

Once created, the inbox is set up on its number and you can open it straight away. To send your first message from it, see Sending your first text message.
