To get emu.chat notifications on your phone, add emu.chat to your Home Screen, open it from there, and turn on browser notifications. It then opens full screen like an app and shows notifications for new messages, assignments and reminders, even when it's closed.
Note: A native emu.chat mobile app is coming soon. Until then, this is how to get notifications on your phone.
Get notifications on iPhone or iPad
iPhone and iPad only show notifications for websites added to the Home Screen, so notifications won't turn on in a Safari tab. You need iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later.
Open Safari and go to emu.chat.
Tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. If you don't see Share, tap ⋯ first. You may need to scroll down the menu to find Add to Home Screen.
If you see Open as Web App, check it's on, then tap Add.
Open emu.chat from your Home Screen and sign in. The Home Screen app doesn't share Safari's sign-in, so you sign in again here.
Go to Settings > Notifications and tap Turn on for this browser in the This browser panel. If browser notifications aren't on for your account yet, turn on Browser notifications instead.
Tap Allow when your iPhone asks.
Tap Send test to check a notification appears.
Always open emu.chat from the Home Screen icon. If you open it in Safari instead, the This browser panel says Add this site to your Home Screen first.
Get notifications on Android
On Android, notifications work in Chrome as well as from the Home Screen. Installing emu.chat gives it its own icon and opens it full screen like an app.
Open Chrome, go to emu.chat and sign in.
Tap ⋮, then Add to Home screen or Install app, and confirm with Install.
Open emu.chat from your Home Screen or app drawer.
Go to Settings > Notifications and tap Turn on for this browser in the This browser panel. If browser notifications aren't on for your account yet, turn on Browser notifications instead.
Tap Allow when your phone asks.
Tap Send test to check a notification appears.
Your phone is set up separately from your computer
Notifications are turned on one browser at a time, so turning them on on your phone doesn't change your computer, and the other way round. Your phone shows under Your other browsers when you open Settings > Notifications on your computer, where you can remove it. See Notification preferences for how browsers are listed and removed.
While you have emu.chat open on your phone, you get an in-app alert instead of a notification, as long as In-app alerts is on.
If notifications don't appear on your phone
If Send test says the test was received but nothing pops up, your phone's settings are hiding it. Check that notifications for emu.chat (iPhone) or Chrome (Android) are on in your phone's settings, and that Do Not Disturb or a Focus is off. See Browser notifications not showing for more fixes.
