The detailed message report shows every message your workspace has sent and received, across all inboxes, in one table you can filter and export. Go to Settings > Reports > Detailed Report.

Note: the detailed report is admin only. If you are not a workspace admin the Detailed Report item in the sidebar is disabled, and you cannot run an export.

What the report counts

The report counts inbound messages that were Received, plus outbound messages in a billable status: Sent, Delivered, Failed, Expired, and Rejected. For what each of those means, see Why did my message fail? (message statuses explained).

Messages that are still pending, and messages that failed inside emu.chat before reaching a carrier (such as a validation failure, a failed dispatch, or a billing failure), are not counted in the outbound figures.

Choosing a direction

Three tabs sit above the table and control which messages you are looking at:

  • Outbound: messages your workspace sent.

  • Inbound: messages your workspace received.

  • Combined: both together.

The summary cards and the table both follow the tab you have selected.

Narrowing the results

Four filters sit above the summary cards, and they all apply to the on-screen figures and table at once:

  • Date range: pick a range, or use one of the presets. It defaults to the last 30 days (today and the previous 29 days), in your workspace timezone. The maximum range is 366 days: ask for more and you get the error "The date range must not exceed 366 days."

  • Sent by: choose one or more workspace users to see only the messages they sent. Leave it on All users for everyone.

  • Status: choose one or more of Sent, Delivered, Failed, Expired, Rejected, and Received. Leave it on All statuses for everything.

  • Search by phone number: type a number to match it against either the sending or the receiving number.

Reading the summary cards

Five cards sit above the table and summarise everything that matches your current tab and filters:

Card

What it shows

Sent

Messages sent, and what percentage of the total that is.

Delivered

Messages the carrier confirmed as delivered, and the percentage of the total.

Failed

Messages that did not get through, and the percentage of the total.

Total

All counted messages in the current selection.

Message Parts

The total number of SMS parts. A long message is split into several parts. Text messages are billed per part, but MMS and RCS are billed per message.

Use Message Parts, not Total, when you are reconciling SMS usage against your bill. For how each type of message is counted, see How SMS parts and message billing work. For how usage draws on your balance, see Buying credits and setting up auto top-up.

The message table

Below the cards, every matching message is listed newest first, 25 to a page, with these columns:

  • Date: when the message was sent or received.

  • User: the workspace user who sent it.

  • From and To: the sending and receiving numbers.

  • Message: the message content.

  • Status: the message's current status.

  • Parts: how many SMS parts that message used.

Exporting to CSV

Select Export Tab to download the report as a CSV. The dialog (titled Export report) confirms the tab and date range it will use, and the file has the same columns as the table: Date, User, From, To, Message, Status, and Parts.

Warning: the export uses only the tab and the date range you have selected. The status, Sent by, and phone-number filters are not applied to the file, so a CSV can contain far more rows than the table you were looking at. If you need a narrower export, narrow the date range or the tab, then filter the CSV in your spreadsheet.

Exports run in the background. Small ones download automatically as soon as they finish. For a larger export you can close the window and get on with something else: emu.chat emails you a download link when it is ready.
