Browser notifications not showing
Fix browser notifications that don't appear: allow emu.chat in your browser, Windows, macOS or phone, then check the cases where only real notifications are missing.

Start with a test notification. Open Settings > Notifications in the browser that isn't getting notifications and click Send test in the This browser panel.
The test doesn't appear: something on this device is blocking notifications. See If the test notification doesn't appear.
The test appears, but notifications for new messages don't: see If the test works but message notifications don't.
If the test notification doesn't appear
Your browser, computer or phone is blocking notifications from emu.chat. Work through these in order, and send another test after each change.
Allow emu.chat in your browser
Once notifications are blocked for a site, the browser won't ask again until you change the setting. Allow emu.chat, then reload the page:
Chrome or Edge: click the site information icon to the left of the address and set Notifications to Allow.
Firefox: click the icon to the left of the address, open the site's permissions, and set Send Notifications to Allow.
Safari on Mac: open Safari > Settings > Websites > Notifications and set emu.chat to Allow.
Allow your browser in Windows
Windows can hide a browser's notifications even when the browser allows them. On Windows 11:
Open Start > Settings > System > Notifications and check Notifications is on.
Under Notifications from apps and other senders, turn on your browser, for example Google Chrome.
Click the browser's name and tick Show notification banners. Without it, notifications go to the notification centre without popping up.
Turn off Do not disturb. It's on if the bell in the notification centre (Windows key + N) shows zZ. Also check Turn on do not disturb automatically, which can turn it on while you duplicate your display, play a game or use an app full screen.
If a Focus session is running, end it. Focus turns on Do not disturb while it runs.
On Windows 10, open Settings > System > Notifications & actions and check Get notifications from apps and other senders is on. When it's off, no notifications show at all, whatever your browser allows. Then turn on your browser under Get notifications from these senders. Do not disturb is called Focus assist on Windows 10.
Allow your browser on a Mac
Open Apple menu > System Settings > Notifications.
Under Application Notifications, click your browser, for example Google Chrome. For Safari, look for an entry named after emu.chat.
Turn on Allow notifications and set the alert style to Banners or Alerts. With None, notifications only go to Notification Centre.
Turn off Do Not Disturb or any other Focus in Control Centre.
If you share your screen, change when mirroring or sharing the display from Notifications Off. It sits under Show Notifications, near the top of the Notifications settings.
Allow notifications on your phone
Android: in Chrome, tap the icon to the left of the address, then Permissions > Notifications, and allow them. Check that Chrome's notifications are on in your phone's settings and that Do Not Disturb is off.
iPhone and iPad: notifications only work when emu.chat is added to your Home Screen and opened from there. Turn them on in the Home Screen app, then check Settings > Notifications > emu.chat on your device, and that no Focus is on.
Check security software and extensions
Antivirus tools, ad blockers and privacy extensions can block web notifications. Turn them off one at a time and send a test after each. On a work computer, your IT team may block notifications by policy, so ask them.
If the test works but message notifications don't
This device can show notifications, so the cause is one of these.
You had emu.chat open
While emu.chat is open in front of you and In-app alerts is on, you get an in-app alert instead of a browser notification. Switch to another tab or app, or minimise the browser, before the message arrives.
This browser isn't turned on
Notifications are turned on per browser. A browser stops getting them if it was removed from your list, if you cleared its cookies or site data, or if you turned them on in a private or incognito window.
Open Settings > Notifications in a normal window of that browser. If the This browser panel says Not getting notifications, click Turn on for this browser. See Notification preferences for how the browser list works.
The inbox was closed
If the inbox has business hours, browser notifications for new messages only go out while it's open. Messages that arrive outside opening hours are covered by a catch-up summary email when the inbox next opens. Check the inbox's business hours with an admin, or test with a message sent while the inbox is open.
Still not working
Contact support with your browser, your operating system, and whether the test notification appeared.
